You only meet them once, and that is your only chance to catch them. It is said that only the Master Ball can catch the birds. Unfortunetly, there is only one master ball, and three birds, not to mention another pokémon that you'd rather use the ball on- Mewtwo. So, what's a trainer to do? Well, it's possible to catch the birds with the Ultra Balls that you can buy anywhere. It's quite difficult to catch the birds though. 5.1 Zapdos Zapdos is found in the Power Plant, found South of the Rock Cave's Northern Entrance. Zapdos is perhaps the easiest to capture (he was for me), since once you get one, the rest are somewhat easy. There are two pokémon you want for this battle. A pokémon with HYPNOSIS, and a pokémon with ICE BEAM. First, use hypnosis and make Zapdos fall asleep. Then, switch to the pokémon with Ice Beam, and keep trying to freeze Zapdos. It's hard. Trust me. I must have faught the guy 10 or so times, just for it to work (if it doesn't freeze him right away, don't mind, it may take a few turns, just survive). Once Zapdos is frozen, move in for the kill. Get a WEAK pokémon with TACKLE to bring Zapdos' life down to more or less nill. The bar should be more or less empty (or maybe a small grey line left). Now, hopefully you brought a lot of Ultra Balls. Use them. If you're lucky, Zapdos is yours. 5.2 Moltres Moltres is found in the Victory Road Cave. I found him on accident, so I'm not sure exactly where to look. Moltres was really an accident for me. I caught him first try. There were three pokémon I used. Gengar (with Hypnosis), Zapdos, and Manky (for Scratch). First, Gengar made Moltres fall asleep. Then Zapdos did Drill Beak twice, to lower Moltres' life a bit. Finally, Manky scratched away (Gengar returning Moltres to sleep when necessary) until Moltres' life bar was virtually gone. It took me maybe 4 Ultra Balls to get a good catch. 5.3 Articuno Articuno is found in the Sea Foam islands. Just look around. I don't know exact directions. One word: EASY. Bring Zapdos, a pokémon with Hypnosis, and a lower leveled pokémon with a weak attack. First. Hypnosis. Then Zapdos' Thundershock. This SHOULD reduce Articuno to rather low life after doing it twice. Then bring out the low damage-dealing pokémon, and simply attack it until it's life is down to practically nothing. Throw an ultra ball. Took me only two Ultra Balls. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 6.0 Credits DISLAIMER: This Guide is copyright 1998 Shane Lile.
